It's been a busy week at Greenwell Point....

I wish I could have done this class myself!

You must be a Vimeo member to download, remember. Comments very welcome.

What a fun class... Im all loosy goosy, lots of new stuff I will definitely come back to.

However, with more subtle movements that were also new to me it was considerably harder to follow with the lighting, black and white an relatively wide shots.

Dave is quite soft spoken has a slight tendency to swallow his words, so even as a native speaker of the queens english I had to pay really close attention sometimes. Project my boy - project!!

Look forwards to spending my pocket money on all the upcoming classes.

I like these spine movements. Never really did them, funny to see how brain can't initially cope with some of them. Then I found that for some obliques seem to be first limiters (most likely I wasn't doing the moves correctly as well first time). A small bit of soreness in t-spine in the morning was nice to feel (seems I've got a bit of movement there, and it is very tight area for me).

Time spend in this particular foot position is also quite new to me (and bit painful ;) ).

In some of these shots Dave's feet are not clearly seen straight away, before other camera angle is shown, but Dave quickly goes to actual exercise, if that could be clearly shown, maybe bit slower that would be even better (probably applies more to people with less flexible feet, who can't, like me get exactly in position Dave's was showing).

All in all, interesting session, seem like I've found my new favorite way of spending money ;).

Thank Swiss Danny; 100% accurate. And we had technical problems on the sound side too, worth mentioning. Just before that point in the video where the super says "sorry we had sound problems here") someone knocked the power adapter for the sound system AND bumped the recorder... pulling the plug out out of the adapter, and knocking the recorder to the floor, about a 2m fall. Note to producer (me) gaffer tape all cables in future! And because I did not have a ladder, I could not put the recorder back on the same high shelf near the speaker (this is how we reduce the ambient noise) and hence the recorder's perspective change the quality of Dave's voice.

Nonetheless, the exhortation to "Project!" is operative (because all the cameras record sound too, as a backup; this is where we got the sound you can hear while the recorder was off-line) and the better the voice is projected, the better the safety backup sound will be.

And I will be buying the right lenses while on tour in Asia (leaving today) so that I can 'person' one camera and change its framing to show the needed subtle details. When we are in full production mode, only one camera will be fixed, and two will have live operators (more on this aspect to come). I am an ex TV director, as some here may know, and I absolutely have a vision in mind of the quality and look I want, but it's not until very recently that the technology to realise this vision has been available.

All these technical details need to be attended to in the moment, which is why hight quality live videos in our market are very rare. We are trying to set new standards here, and with your collective help, we will. Thanks and please keep the feedback coming.

And please share far and wide: I need these programs to get out there to justify spending all this money on equipment!

Matt,

This was just a very brief flow class. I have a whole syllabus that will be explained in depth and so does Craig. ..In fact, both Craig and I are up early on Easter Saturday about to go into the studio and film some remaining fragments to an almost complete explanatory-style download of mine.

Craig has a whole product in development on spinal undulations in all directions.

Stay tuned!

Did those spinal movements after those from Craig's video today, interesting feeling sometimes, feels like plenty of space to improve on, what is a good feeling as well.

During those shoulder circles (back/up/forward/down) I felt something like small strings being pulled around infraspinatus, elevator scap attachment(?), no pain, but I'm not sure what that may have been, other than maybe sign of a problem there (maybe fascia not sliding well?).

  • 2 weeks later...

Tried this today. Really interesting sensations. Loved the specific feet and hands work, will surely go back to that soon.

On the special calf raises (killer BTW...) you show here, do you think they could be used as a pre-exhaustion sort of thing before some intense calf stretching such as the downward dog with calf emphasis?

barna284 - Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, those calf raises can be used for pre-exhaustion before calf stretching, especially if you are aiming to stretch the deep posterior compartment muscles (tib post, FHL, FDL). I am going to film these exercises in depth with explanations and variants for my '5 necks' VOD product. In the meantime, you could experiment with holding a light kettlebell in a goblet squat position to fatigue the muscles quicker. Too heavy and the formed gets sloppy and you don't contract these deeper posterior shin muscles effectively or fully.
