Geotrismegistos Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 I could be wrong but i dont believe its possible to achieve a standing side split without arching the back. One time as i was bending forward to achieve the arch and prepare myself for the stretch, i literally felt some muscles dislocate/move/get out of the way around the abductors and let me go very low. And i dont think its possible to get there without arching the back.
Craig Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 This guy looks pretty close: Of course, it may depend on the type of femur you have, but I think everyone is capable of getting reasonably close to the ground (say <30cm) without arching.
Joshvogel Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Well it is not super clear from the above posts, which is partly why I posted. 400 each leg forward = 400 x 2 = 800. pulses forward 400 each leg sideways = 400 x 2 = 800 pulses sideways 800 + 800 = 1600 pulses /day From Emmets post he is talking about after the holding the horse stance after the pulses also. I take the above to mean this: Pulses fwd 400/400 Pulses side 400/400 Horse stance 5min EDIT: it is probably "only" 5 minutes of horse stance a day. Ah, gotcha. In addition to pulses fwd and side, a side bend was also mentioned which is where my confusion came from (that would make it 2400 total). Not sure if the side bend is seperate from leg to side. Thanks!

Craig Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 True! Well I'm going for it anyways. Will report back from time to time
Geotrismegistos Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 True! Well I'm going for it anyways. Will report back from time to time I've seen people, especially shaolin kids who look like they are not arching, but i dont buy it since it can easily be camouflaged by wide clothes. Or it could be that someone that started as a kid can achieve it because of more pliable body. Or maybe you are right and you will teach us something new so good luck Craig.

Is this ballistic stretching similar to the Shi Da Pan exercises Craig posted before or is it something completely different?
Craig Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Hi Craig, Yes the pulses are just like what I'm doing in the first shi da pan exercise, but there are some different body arrangements, the first being standing upright with a leg resting on a bench infront of you, then the same but the leg is resting on a bench to the side of you (at roughly hip height or higher).

Ahh I see, isn't that called head to toe in wushu circles? LIke in this video I think I prefer the Shi Da Pan
MarkusO Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Hi! Tibetanac Posted January 13, 2015 Author Posted January 13, 2015 Hei has anyone got some more information about wave movements? I started doing some recently and I find it really good as a rehab tool .
Emmet Louis Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Hei has anyone got some more information about wave movements? I started doing some recently and I find it really good as a rehab tool . You'll find all your answers on waving in the dance world. Well maybe not all the answers but definitely the techniques 1
Tibetanac Posted January 14, 2015 Author Posted January 14, 2015 lol I guess I will just think next time more! thanks
Craig Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Corset workshop attended: Basic protocol: MOVE THROUGH YOUR ENTIRE RANGE OF MOTION GODDAMMIT. lots of joint circles, waves, tri planar movements etc. This topic in the workshop was material i had either encountered in the martial arts circles (common MA warmup material like arm circles eg: Shi Da Pan movement 6) or in the hip hop dance circles (in particular liquid body stuff). Also: capacity to express not only strength, but stability and balance, while moving through or holding at the end ROM. The diagonal stretch that ido has mentioned on his facebook, and the single leg good morning (later moving to single leg deadlift) are examples of this. Lots of hanging work for shoulders and upper body. This was only the first stage of corset, not sure what the later stages entail.
Adurst Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 This topic in the workshop was material i had either encountered in...or in the hip hop dance circles (in particular liquid body stuff). Sweet! Wish you had shown off your B-boy moves at the workshop!
SDowd Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I'm very fascinated with this topic and am trying to get a Movement-X and Corset workshop setup at the Crossfit gym I work at in San Diego. Hopefully sometime near the end of the year. Up to this point, my main influences have peen Pavel, Kit, Kelly Starrett, and of course, good ol' self-experimentation! In the meantime, I'll be playing with the "bounce" stretches and horse stance! Dig this forum! :-)
Tibetanac Posted March 6, 2015 Author Posted March 6, 2015 I found that Rachel Gray had this series added in playlist called " Ido training " I took a look, many waves here for joint warm up check it out guys.
trodheim Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 more than two years from last comment but. i assist to a corset workshop this year in Barcelona, many high level people in the workshop, dancers, movers, yoga teachers and more... and me, a normal person who likes to move and want to study more about movement and mobility. the corset is a 64 exercices collection, divided in joint prep and joint mobility. when you ask about stances, whusu protocol, etc the answer was: this is for higher level courses, you should attend to a internship (6550$) or to a mentorship (3450$), when you ask for another question the answer is the same, for that you shoud attend the xxxx workshop or online coaching... about the corset, nothing new, when i ask by messenger about horse stance to emmet, he take more time on the explanation than the teachers on the workshop that i paid 675$. so if emmet, craig, dave, kit or liv come to spain for a whorkshop, i think that have more audience than ido´s team, many of us were disappointed. i want a good stance workshop near, i think that is a very good stuff to progress... edit: sorry for my bad english, i speak very bad
