I'm currently doing the thumbs down against the floor/wall shoulder opener and was wondering if this will be sufficient or if I should add any other exercises? Thanks. Photos of my stiff elbow on the attached photos compared to less stiff elbow. Mostly from overuse (tennis, cricket etc.) I feel no pain when i try to straighten, it's just physically impossible/hard. Craig Posted August 18, 2014 Share Posted August 18, 2014 should be fine to resolve completely with the palm up stretch you've shown; a partner variation would be ideal. the ideal position is to be able to make a fist, flex your wrist, and then touch the little finger to the ground from that position. it's tight You could also work on fingers backwards planche leans to help open up the bicep under load and also strengthen brachialis. Kit_L Posted August 22, 2014 Share Posted August 22, 2014 Very likely, it's brachialis, rather than biceps. Once in a stretch position (you will need a partner) have him/her lean on the back of the elbow (or, better, on both the forearm and the upper arm) then you try to flex the elbow against this resistance. Then stop, breathe in and relax, and use your triceps AND your partner's weight to slowly straighten the elbow further. Many arms have been straightened this way. Go carefully. Looks the same as the locust pose in Bikram. It's never felt to me like a "stretch" in the sense of a muscle being elongated. Rather, a pure joint/bone sensation, as my bodyweight is pushing down on the back of my elbow joints. However, I have gotten better at it over time, and it is not as painful as it used to be.
