Stretch Therapy for Gymnastics Strength Training ("ST for GST") programs

Recommended Posts

We have finalised the plans for the first three programs (Master the full squat and hip mobility, Master the pancake, and Master the Pike) and start work on them in the next few weeks. I have found and editor and we have a local cameraman.

I added 'Master the full squat and hip mobility' program because there was simply too much material in the other two, and because mastering the first program guarantees an easier path through the other two. All can be worked at the same time, if desired, though.

Programming information and discussions will be made available here on a private forum, free to all purchasers of the programs.

After the announcement today from GB (about their latest courses, "Movement One" and "Stretch One/Two"), I will not be releasing the details of the contents of the forthcoming programs publicly on the forums here. Be assured that the quality will be similar to all my present books and DVDs.

I remain firm in my intention that these programs will be DRM-free, too.

I meant to add: please keep us informed of developments over at Coach's forum (ones that are relevant to what we are doing here, I mean). Cheers; and today is the last day of the retreat, too.

The How to sit for mediation program definitely will be coming out at the same time; we start shooting on the Easter long weekend. I refined it over the week of the retreat, and taught this as a 'follow-along' sequence to 35+ people daily, and their improvement over the week was extraordinary. Many of these people had never stretched. All were able to sit more comfortably as a result. Can't wait to share these.

I am planning on making all programs available at the $4.99 advertised price, but set a time limit, beyond which point the price jumps to $8.99. How does this sound? And how long should this period be? I am thinking a week, during which you folk can tell all your friends (if you like the programs!).

I wanted this group here to benefit from their involvement here. As well, I will set up a private ST for GST Forum here for all program purchasers (anyone who purchases from the store here will be granted access to this forum automatically—and this forum will be where we go into the detailed programming). Sound like a plan?

Comments very welcome. kl

I like that, especially the private forum for support. And the prices are fair.

Please answer my question if pancake, pike and how to sit in meditation programs are enough to getting someone to achieve side splits, front splits and lotus, which are my major goals (plus bridge which i expect coming after that).

One week seems fair, I'll get all of them as soon as they are released anyway :D

It will be a bit difficurl to spread it over at the GB since they are deleting all posts not related to their business.

Yay! I'm excited. Thanks for these responses. Great feedback on the prices and the private forum, too.

All I ask is that you all let as many people you know over about what we are trying to do. If all my posts there (all helping people, I must add) are being deleted, somehow folk need to know what we are trying to do.

We just need a critical mass to make sure that this "Mastering" series gets known and out there. Whatever you all can do to help will be appreciated. KL

I must ask: what do you need full lotus for? If you are not built like a pencil, for most Western bodies full lotus is a very risky pose (many yogis and meditators have hurt their knees trying to do this). I can do this pose, but none of my teachers can, properly. The reason is that the flexibility that gets you pike, pancake, and side splits is different to what's needed to do full lotus. I honestly think any of the other ways of sitting are preferable, if you are a meditator. If you are not, it's a trick and a high risk one, IMHO.

Full lotus will be a program of its own. On the silent week-long retreat I ran last week, with 32 experienced meditators, not one sat in full lotus. Same on the Malaysian retreat last December (45 people).

Re. side splits: that will be fully covered in the Pancake program.

Front splits will be covered by the Pike and Full Backbend programs (FS needs loose hammies and very loose HFs).

Thank you for the reply Mr.Laughlin.

I do not 'need' full lotus for sure. Probably noone does.

I am not built like a pencil but i am thin, and yes, i've heard before that its risky, and i also experienced it first hand because for months i try to get near it using various stretches and i feel the consequences on my knees :/

I am not a meditator, so i guess it is indeed a high risk trick :D

The reason i want any flexibility is not a need for a sport or something like Martial Arts, Yoga, Gymnastics, Skating, Ballet, Rock Climbing, Cheerleading or Circus.

The only reason is because i love it, i love the movements, the grace, beauty, elegance, perfection, mastery of the human body, and to me it looks almost superhuman/demigod/spiritual like :D

Its very encouraging that you have made it and you can do this pose, and im very happy that you will make a program for it, because of the quality of your approach to flexibility and attention to safety. It will be my best shot to get there.
