Final product title, and how workshops will be offered in 2011

I have copied and edited a post from my BLOG today; I shall be very interested in comments here, too.

After much discussion, I have decided that this will be the new title and sub-title:

Stretch Therapy™

How to attain ease in the body and graceful movement

I will be grateful for final comments on the name. To remind readers, this title is for the new book/video product (it will be both downloadable, with embedded video) and Print On Demand ('POD"), the book and images only version.

Future workshops will flow from this decision, too. There are three ST workshops, and everyone begins with the first one, immediately below:

Intro. to Stretch

The very first experience any new person will have of the ST method, this three-day workshop will be completely practical/experiential, and will include a relaxation session each day. Anyone, whether an individual wanting to have a 'body sabbatical', or someone wanting to become a Stretch Teacher or a Stretch Practitioner (Therapist in some jurisdictions) will need to begin with this workshop. Someone who has done Intro. to Stretch may choose to go on to the Stretch Teacher or Stretch Practitioner streams.

Stretch Teacher

An additional three-day workshop will focus on teaching the attendees how to teach a decent stretch class: this includes all the staples such as essential functional anatomy, how to teach multiple variations of the same exercise at the same time, how to structure a class, and how to correct a student's form. The additional three-day workshop may be done any time after the Intro. Completion of the six days entitles an attendee to attend a Stretch Teacher Certification examination, too.

Stretch Practitioner (Therapist)

A Stretch Practitioner will begin with the Intro. to Stretch, then takes a second, different, three-day workshop that focusses on how to treat common problems like neck and back pain, in the one-on-one rehab. or clinic situation. This includes the latest research into these problems, tests on how to distinguish structural from functional leg-length differences, the critical exercises to relieve low back and neck pain, and more. Completion of the SP six days allows an attendee to call themselves a Level One Stretch Practitioner.

Level Two Stretch Practitioner (Therapist)

This additional two-day workshop focusses on neural repatterning, muscle activation, and a full revision of all the key stretching and strengthening exercises. In addition, Level Two includes how to test and treat shoulder and arm problems, including RSI. On completion, an attendee may call themselves a Level Two Stretch Practitioner. We are in the process of designing and implement an SP certification scheme, too, but this has not been finalised. Please subscribe to our occasional newsletter to be kept informed of developments, HERE.

The ST system requires teachers and practitioners to engage in regular refresh and upskilling. This can be done every three years by attending any of the three-day workshops above. Heavy discounts apply to anyone repeating any workshop or attending the other stream's workshops: we want you to be as good a teacher or practitioner as you can be. See the main site for detail.

We feel that making the first experience of the work all-practical can only help everyone. As well, on the SP side, many past attendees have said that we have tried to pack too much into the six-day format, and hence the additional days.

What do you think?

Hi Kit, I have been following the discussions with interest. The structure of future workshops has a good feel to it. I do have two comments. First I was wondering if with the new three day format you re open the possibility for three day workshops which I thought you no longer wished to do. What are your thoughts on how to avoid this? The second thing is a sentence structure comment. Instead of ¨How to attain ease in the body and graceful movement¨ you can keep all the same thoughts and create a more graceful sentence by saying ¨ How to attain ease and graceful movement in the body¨. Or if a slight further edit is allowed: Attaining ease and graceful movement. [in the body is understood]. Peace and love and all good things, regan and janos. ps. for your consideration: if and when you choose to rebrand Stretch Therapy I suggest something along the lines of: The Laughlin Method, or The Laughlin Technique, or The Laughlin System. I think approaching it that way feels more grounded, specific and powerful. xo J and R

Hello Janos,

Thanks for your comments. You wrote:

It's all about numbers, my friend. My intention is to offer an Intro workshop wherever we have already taught (like in York) and offer either an ST or an SP/ST the following weekend. My hope is that there will be early signing up for the ST/SP workshop from a number of attendees from our last gig there and some who flow on from the Intro. workshop.

If we get decent numbers at the Intro workshop, that will be enough to come over for, and it will not be anywhere near as important to fill the following weekend's workshop, whichever it is.

I welcome comments from other readers on the remainder of your post; interesting ideas for sure.

One final idea (and I think this might have been Linda's idea originally), I wonder if the Intro workshop should simply be called:

Body holiday

I was thinking that, apart from being tricky to spell, sabbatical is a bit academic!

Warmest, Kit
