Seeking rehab advice for VMO?

Recommended Posts

Folks, please see request from my martial arts friend below. My initial thoughts were strengthening where it is easier to achieve good form (knee tracking), like invisible chair, how do you wake this muscle up?

thanks

Louise

Hi Louise

Any tips (from Kit’s crew) for activating/strengthening the vastus medialis obliquus (VMO) – in addition to what these guys have http://www.theinjuredknee.com/knee-injury-prevention/top-10-exercises-to-strengthen-vmo-vastus-medialis-obliquus/

Cheers!

The single-leg squat, in my view, is the best for this. I have some YouTube clips that show beginner's versions; ask you friend to go to YT and search for it, using my name. But I would like your friend to post (via you if you want) and tell us why he/she wants to strengthen VMO. cheers, K

Thanks Kit

My friend Simon was assisting a friend with patella dislocation who had a very weak VMO. His friend has had patella stabilisation surgery and is finding it is taking a very long time for the muscles to come back. It seems the surgery has not completely solved the problem.

The one legged squat you recommended I expect would be useful to prevent the need for the surgery as well as post surgery rehab.

Thanks again for your time, always appreciated

kind regards

Louise
