jackie mcrae
Hi all, seeking advice on brands of men's long trousers that are suitable for wearing to a stretch class. I have a couple of men in their 70's attending (one is my dad). Last week my dad showed up in jeans.. If we do a stretch at his house, he is comfortable wearing shorts or trackpants, but when he goes out he likes to look dressed to "go out". I've googled the hiking stores but am bamboozled by the great variety of clothes available. Do you guys have a preferred brand?
CraigR
Hi Jackie, I haven't really tried anything else but I've been quite happy with the Prana Stretch Zion pants: https://www.prana.com/stretch-zion-pant.html

Are they comfortable even when doing things like pancake or front/side splits? No shipping to Japan, unfortunately. I'll have to find a store and check them out next time I visit the US. Actually, I guess I might be in Australia before then, so maybe I'll look them up in Sydney! @jackie mcrae: Personally, I just pick up whatever cheap stretchy pants I can find. In my case, that's either sweatpants, or loose Yoga pants if I want to look a bit more presentable. That said, if your dad or the other men want to wear jeans, then they could just take a pair of shorts with them, or even wear them under the jeans. If it's colder weather, something like long johns could work just fine, too.
Pat (pogo69)
No help, here. I just wear my partner's leggings under the ubiquitous pair of shorts. I don't imagine that your dad would consider that "dressed to go out".
jackie mcrae
thanks Craig, the Prana ones look nice. I'll order my dad a pair of them. Nathan and Pogo, thanks for your input. Tracky dacks won't cut it with my dad. His legs are really skinny so he doesnt wear shorts out either. And i would not even suggest that he wear tights or "active wear". thanks for quick replies gentlemen. cheers

I have no personal experience with them, but Yuri Marmerstein and Jujimufu both recommend them and they both do lots of acrobatics and stuff, so I would imagine they would work fine for most stretching. In fact, here is a picture of Jujimufu doing the splits in them. One thing to note is that they are made for bulkier athletes and might be a bit baggy on your dad, but that's only really a problem if he doesn't like baggy pants.

I find them comfortable enough for the training that I do, no issues training pancake etc. They're not quite as comfortable as say, stretchy mesh basketball style shorts or track pants, but they are definitely dressier for those that have that concern. I wear them as casual shorts/pants most days and it's what I wear teaching classes/workshops too. Pretty sure there's a few other ST teachers that also have some.
Kit_L
I second Craig: the Prana pants are all I wear; I have four or five pairs. Perfectly fine for front and side splits practise and anything else. The fabric seems to come in different weights, too (probably made in different places). The black and grey ones are definitely able to be worn out anywhere. They are the only trousers I own.

I've only heard good things about these, and now from you and Craig, as well. Will definitely have to check them out when I'm near a shop. Edit: Also, any pants that have a color named "coffee bean" have to be good
jackie mcrae
Thanks for your comments Kit. I guess they are what you were wearing at a workshop I attended last year... I like that they don't look like exercise pants, and I'm sure my dad will too. I've already ordered some for him. No black or charcoal in stock, so "coffee bean" it is..
Jim Pickles
If you are in Australia, a cheap alternative are some cargo-style pants that K-Mart or Target sell, for probably around $30. Loose enough for all stretches.
