TonyW Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 When doing exercises like neck rolls, should I be stretching the neck at the same time or have it totally relaxed? and what difference does it make as to the speed? does doing them really slow have any benefits over doing them faster? Same for shoulder shrugs
CraigR Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Hi Eskie, I always start joint mobility movements slower and within a smaller range of motion, then depending on how it feels I start to increase the range of motion and then the speed. Moving slowly gives you the chance to become aware of all the subtle sensations that you are experiencing and allows you to explore your full range of motion much safer than if you were moving quickly. And if you're moving fast enough such that momentum carries you through the parts of the movement where you have no awareness and control, then you're losing some of the benefits of doing the movements in the first place. 2
