dannyg Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Hey everybody, I've been absent for quite some time. I now live and work in Seoul, South Korea. I'm an Osteopath & Stretch/movement teacher. I am about to start running regular pre-natal and postpartum classes to small ground in Seoul - and hopefully a general adults class too (once I find a space). Anyway, I spent most of my free time practising, reading and writing - Came across this paper and thought you might find it interesting: I've been developing my own teaching and ideas over the years. I'll post some ideas and things I've been working on a bit later on. I've had interesting personal discoveries from a)dealing with stress b)demonstrating stretches daily and floor living c)combining my practices and what I teach into something coherent. I've been wanting to communicate and discuss all things stretchy but it's been a busy/stressful year: So far I have hiked to Everest Base Camp, proposed to my girlfriend (We processed the marriage paperwork recently so technically she's my wife, but the wedding is on October 21st in Seoul - if anybody wants to come!), and had to look after my (now) wife who was in hospital and dangerously ill for a few weeks (up to her eyeballs in morphine/fentanyl). She's fine now (thankfully) - stress over. Anyway, hope you guys enjoy the study - hope to have an interesting discussion about it. 3
Nathan Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Hey Danny, Thanks for sharing! I see the PDF name, but I can't actually view a PDF. Did you upload it? Perhaps a link would be better. Congrats on the marriage! I'm in Japan, so Seoul isn't too far for me. I've been looking for a good reason to go back ever since I found out there's a Texas de Brazil there And the best gyoza/potstickers I've ever had were in Incheon! But October is going to be a busy month for me, so I'll have to pass, unfortunately. We should definitely gang up on Kit and get him to come do workshops in Japan or Korea, though
dannyg Posted September 3, 2017 Author Posted September 3, 2017 https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-017-09429-1 Or https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-017-09429-1.pdf I don't know what happened - I tried to the PDF and it automatically showed the document. So I left it at that. Apparently it didn't work very well... Absolutely - I'm sure we can find people interested in doing a workshop or two! I'm going to start a workout log, as (finally) I am back in the saddle and training again. 1
Nathan Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 Those both work - thanks! Yes, I have seen this study recently, and a couple of articles about it. The stiffness (or tightness) is your mind. So we stretch the mind!
dannyg Posted September 4, 2017 Author Posted September 4, 2017 Haha, yes I know what you mean. For me at least, the interesting lead is that it is protective. The language of the body is sensation - and the feelings of stiffness are generated by the mind (protectively). In my work, I often use reassuring words and 'tests' to convince someone their body is fine, and their experience of sensations changes totally. I like to think that we change how we enact our reality. Or Stretching the mind. 1
