MarkTN Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Stretch Therapy's emphasis on the exploratory process of physical sensation rather than the achievement of a finished pose is what inspires and motivates me to return to the mat day after day. Sometimes drawing allows me to express subjective feelings more than a photograph. I'm combining these 2 threads. 2
MarkTN Posted July 24, 2017 Author Posted July 24, 2017 Elephant walk. Squat. Seated work. I shoot stills with my phone and remote trigger. When I make the drawings I zoom into to the details which really forces the perspective.
Kit_L Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 @MarkTN: these are just getting better and better! @Cam Ogle suggested that I should write a book, "Stretching without stretching", and these are the kind of illustrations that such a book could use. I have always avoided illustrations of positions for the reasons I mention in Stretching & Flexibility (because a drawing, being able to show any position, does not inspire like a photo of the author in the same position can) but I see these illustrations of yours being able to add an emphasis and dimension that an image cannot. Together, more information = deeper learning. We should talk, and in the meantime, keep posting: these are excellent. 1 1
MarkTN Posted August 19, 2017 Author Posted August 19, 2017 Thank you Kit. I'll keep going with this project. My drawings skills have a long way to catch up with my insights, someday expressing the organs and internal connections. Right now I'm following the surface contours of things, starting one place and seeing where it leads me like a pencil maze.
Kit_L Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 @MarkTN: that sounds like a plan, and please keep posting. Follow that pencil! 1
