Just FYI, when trying to access the link posted (on 05/10/2017 at ~ 9:30 PM EST) I am getting a "Error establishing a database connection" message. I also get this message when trying to access stretchtherapy.net.

Hi! I was just trying to access the audios but they seem to be removed. Will you re-upload them?

Hey Markus,

I'm guessing it's just a matter of time while they get everything reorganized on the new website. In the meantime, just FYI, you can still access the recordings directly if you use the links in various posts here on the forum.

From the launch date of the new site on, we will be keeping a small number of recordings free, and charging a modest (token) amount for the others recorded at workshops. The recordings made at the Buddhist monasteries will not be sold (when Patrick and I taught there, we operated under the dana rule, donation by attendees), so we cannot charge for these. All the links here will remain, so as Nathan says, download away!

@Kit_L Not sure if it is intentional, but the Apple Podcasts and Spotify links on the ST page do not work (i.e. they are not clickable). I only mention it because I was able to find both with a Google search, which makes it seem like it might have been an oversight.

New site looks great!

Thanks for the heads up Nathan. I will inform the appropriate back in person! Can you link to the actual problem page, please?

Sure! It's the podcasts page here: https://stretchtherapy.net/stretch-therapy-podcast/. These are the buttons that are missing the links:

It's a quick fix, so should be no problem getting it taken care of! :)

For those interested in the meantime, the direct links are: Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

@Nathan, can I impose upon you to compile the links to the audio recordings here into a single list (I must not be searching the right way!) and I will make these available free on our site as well.

"The following is a unique collection of the full audio of four exercises sessions Kit presented at BUBS prior to the 45 minute sitting session. Their focus is the first satipatthana (there are four; the first foundation of mindfulness is the body). Kit approaches all the exercises presented from this perspective, and the cueing includes pointers on what to look for in the mind’s reactions to what is happening in the body – what you find might surprise you. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time recordings of this nature have been made public. Each session is about 90-minutes long."

Edited the above reply to include the list. I have the missing BUBS recordings (four lying relaxations and four exercise sessions) on my PC, so I can send those to you if you don't have them anymore. I don't have the York UK recording, unfortunately.

I'll listen to all suggestions on how best to present on the site. We already have a number of podcasts on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. What would be the best platform for these kinds of audio recordings?

And we have decided to make them all free, so please include the BUBS ones, too, and any others @MarkusO. Either sent to @Nathan (as he has done such an outstanding job already) or me; I have access to all the originals, which are held on AWS S3, but the way they are organised here is SO much better! You two are stars.

I will add the missing files to the post above.

I'd suggest something like this. Each individual file has an RSS feed, and there is an RSS feed for the collection as well. All someone has to do is choose the preferred feed and add it to their favorite podcast app, which will then download the associated audio files. In our case, the individual files would be individual lying relaxations, and the collections would be (1) specific workshops and (2) all available scripts.

Is there a way to upload the recordings as some kind of playlist to Spotify/ITunes? I think this would be the most comfortable way for people to listen to them. The suggestion from @Nathan is also great if one uses a podcast app. Not sure if you'd reach a bigger audience directly via Spotify/ITunes; I think more people use those than Podcast apps?

I would see podcast format as having some advantages over a song format:

+ pods are stored on a single pod server and you just need to register the pod RSS once with each service (itunes, spotify, others) and not upload each new track to each platform saving admin time and making them service "agnostic"

+ pod episodes can be given a long as necessary description field, links back to website etc

+ new content/episodes is flagged to subscribers much more systematically than new songs are in music players

+ it's easier to distinguish between heard/unheard content in pods

+ pods can still be flagged as favourites/starred to find again easily

+ in spotify at least you can make pod playlists (and presumabyl make them shared/public playlists)

- unless you get listeners to download the episodes to their devices you might end up with more streaming bandwidth but meanwhile I think pod storage has gone down a lot

- monetization model is non existent other than sponsors within the pod (but this isnt a topic).

Presently, these recordings are stored on Amazon's AWS S3 storage as discrete files. The costs are very reasonable. Yes, we can duplicate the list as it was on our old site in the new site, and that is an option, and I can add explanatory notes (and dot-point the elements used in individual recordings, so people can find their favourites), but I have a few questions:

If we put these on Spotify, doesn't the free version have ads? And, if so, do the ads play during any recording, or only before or after? I would much prefer no ads.

And does anyone here have experience with Apple's music service?

What are people's suggestions for best podcast server/service?

@MarkusO Good point! I forget how popular Spotify is since I don't use it

Perhaps @Emmet Louis can give some good advice. He's a podcast superstar now :D He uses Anchor FM, which automatically distributes to Spotify and other major platforms. I think ads will be listening platform-specific, though, so it might be best to just recommend people use a platform or app with no ads and leave it up to them.

Apparently, Spotify bought Anchor FM, and they are moving to a subscription pricing plan, as so many others are. Still looking. @Emmet Louis does have a podcast superstar voice, though, and I recall telling him this in the early days! :)
