Dave is wondering if anybody on here has stumbled on a good explanation for a physical phenomena I have experienced a number of times.

Recently it has happened when I did some broad jumps across a stairwell.  It usually occurs with an all out jump where I fling my arms.

The sensation produced is a slightly lagged sensation (delayed) that lasts for ~30-90 seconds.  It is an unpleasant, very deep 'shock' 'recoil' sensations that occurs in the forearms. It feels like my periosteum and is a 'bone ache' like sensation.

Similar to when you jump off something high with no shoes (or shoes) and land on the ground and get the 'stingy/ache' in the feet.

Anyone know what this is?  I would say that because I do not jump regularly it is a de-conditioning thing.. just interested if others have experienced this.

I had (have?) An interesting thing where if I hop on one leg for some time, the leg that is in the air does something weird, when I put it down it's like it is very tensed up and gives me a sharp shock through all of the feet muscles, particularly on the top of the foot. It goes away after 3 or 4 steps. Haven't checked to see if I still have this issue in some time

My guess is that the clue is in DW's original post; "an all out jump where I fling my arms". In that scenario, the arms are the crack at the end of a whip, shock-absorption wise, and they are working eccentrically. Any slight mis-timing must be accommodated too, and the closer to "all-out" the more likely this is. As long as it goes away, no problem, I feel.

K - Yes; it certain is the arms, though I can whip my arms in standing at full velocity and crack them like a whip and I get no sensation (no unpleasant sensation .. it actually feels very good). My question was rather about if anybody knew what structures precisely and how this comes about (in a arms flinging jump).

It feels like it is some aspect of the loading of the soft tissue connections in leaping (again, only two footed broad jump as one-foot jumping is fine) pulls at whatever connection links the deep flexor-periosteum compartments to the upper and torso.  It is quite an interesting and unpleasant feeling - deep in/around the bone.  No problem, as you say.  It is (potentially) an interesting tightness in my body that one manifests with a full body explosive endeavor at stretch-recoil.

I might play with it this weekend and see if I can replicate it.
